Contemporary Means for Recovering our
Arab and Muslim Heritage
The national decree of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah, to establish the Sharjah International Foundation for the History of Muslim and Arab Sciences (SIFHAMS) is considered one of the cornerstones of his progressive national cultural projects. Out of great demand and because of its importance to Arab and Muslim nations and to scientists and specialists, SIFHAMS explores the truth about the sources of knowledge upon which the enormous technological revolution was built, which now serves humankind in its entirety. It is well known that many specialized centers and scholars place a great deal of importance on the fact that this revolution was built upon the solid and firm basis of Arab and Muslim scientific heritage.
Accordingly, I may affirm that the establishment of SIFHAMS will certainly elevate the Arab and Muslim culture and without a doubt redirect the ignorance and denial of many international, educational and scientific institutions, authorities, centers and organizations seeking technological progress, whether on Earth, in space or elsewhere.
The Sharjah International Foundation for the History of Muslim and Arab Sciences seeks to realize this quest under the governance of its president, His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah, and the SIFHAMS Board of Trustees, which is composed of luminaries from among international Arab and Muslim scientists and scholars. Board members, endowed as specialists and legal authorities supporting the Arab and Muslim sciences, endeavor to fulfil the mission of the Foundation. The mission of the Foundation is to realize its vision of becoming a distinguished and leading center in defining the contributions of Arab and Muslim scientists to the history of the sciences and highlighting the impact of these scientists on the modern sciences in the service of humanity towards a more promising future. SIFHAMS seeks to revive Arab and Muslim scientific heritage through the processes of compilation, preservation, verification, investigation, publication, and translation and to serve as a platform for dialogue, discussion, communication and interaction between cultures through adhering to set of objectives. These include reviving, maintaining and raising the profile of Arab/Islamic scientific heritage at the local, regional and international levels and taking advantage of the technologies that will enable the bringing about of this scientific legacy, as it should be, through research, studies, surveys, graduate studies and graduate projects.
Additionally, SIFHAMS seeks to attract scientists and specialists in the sciences at the international level, form practical and direct channels of communication with leading orientalists who have recorded many international facts on the scientific legacy of Arabs and Muslims, encourage the sponsorship of those interested in the Arab and Muslim scientific legacy, raise the profile of such research and technological activities and support these individuals and institutions locally and regionally. Further, SIFHAMS endeavors to integrate the components of this heritage into a modern educational system as a common human denominator, which has served prior human civilizations and today constitutes a knowledge base upon which to enhance communication among peoples of different nations.
Wishing you success.
